Laurie Markiewicz is a photographer and educator. Her portfolio includes a variety of lifestyle, portrait, street, video, and collage work. Laurie shares the images that she captures through the camera lens - a visual ethnography of those who occupy the world's most diverse metropolis, New York. For over a decade, Laurie has solidified her voice with her ability to utilize the city as a backdrop. Her attention to composition and detail provides a new angle on familiar and iconic locations around New York City. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and spaces in New York City, Philadelphia, Berlin, the Netherlands, and Japan. (see full list with details below)

In addition to Laurie's work as a photographer, she has been an early childhood educator and documentarian for well over a decade. Her intimate perspective of young children holds a focus on the developmental process of a child's natural exploration through art, music, movement, and play.

Laurie's extensive experience in youth development also includes service with children held in NYC Department of Juvenile Justice Centers in the Bronx, before and after school programs and camps, as well as in public and charter school systems of Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania. Her mission was to create a safe space of trust and support for all of the children and families she worked with. This approach encouraged children to genuinely explore their identities and creativity through workshops and field trips focused on leadership and community building.

Laurie holds a Bachelor's of Arts degree from The New School with a concentration on film studies and journalism. She is currently at Bank Street School of Education earning a Dual Degree in Early Childhood General and Special Education.

Laurie resides with her family in New York City.
